Competition rules

Version 2 · updated 6 October 2026

DRAFT. This text is a placeholder pending specialist UK legal advice. It must be reviewed and approved before launch. Edit it in Admin → Content.

1. The promoter

Car Lotto runs each competition on behalf of the listing seller. Car Lotto's company details will be published here once the legal entity is confirmed.

2. Who can enter

  • UK residents aged 18 or over with a verified Car Lotto account.
  • Car Lotto staff, sellers and their households can't enter competitions for their own vehicles.

3. How to enter

  • Paid entry: choose your entries on the vehicle page and pay by debit or credit card (credit card payments are limited to £250 per calendar month).
  • Free entry route: Post your full name, the email address on your Car Lotto account and the car you want to enter to the address in the competition rules, by ordinary post. One entry per envelope. Free entries must arrive before the closing date. They go into the same draw, with the same chance of winning, as paid entries.

4. Maximum entries and closing

Each competition shows its maximum number of entries, its closing date and any limit per person. These are fixed once the competition is live.

5. Minimum threshold

Where a competition has a minimum number of entries, the vehicle page explains what happens if it isn't reached (for example, a full refund of every entry).

6. The draw

Prizes are awarded in accordance with the laws of chance. Draws use the published method COMMIT_REVEAL_HMAC_SHA256_V1. The pool of valid entries is frozen and a cryptographic commitment is published before the draw runs. A second authorised person independently verifies each result. The draw record is published on the vehicle page.

7. Winner verification and handover

The winner's identity and eligibility are checked before they are confirmed. Car Lotto arranges the transfer of the vehicle and its documents.

8. Refunds

Entries are refunded in full when a competition is cancelled or doesn't reach its threshold, and in the other cases set out in our terms.
